Building a good trivia round

  • Mix categories. A round of all-history or all-sports questions gets predictable fast — tag by category and pull a spread.
  • Vary difficulty. A few easy openers keep people engaged before the harder questions show up.
  • Avoid ambiguous trivia. “Which country is largest?” needs a qualifier (by area? by population?) or it invites disputes. See how to create good multiple-choice questions for more on this.
  • Keep it to a length people will finish. 15-20 questions is a common sweet spot for a casual round; go longer for a more serious knowledge test.
